All applicants should have a Grade C or above in English and Maths before they apply to the course (or equivalent, e.g. O-levels but not ALAN tests).  Applicants should have at least 5 GCSE's at Grade C or above, especially in the subject they wish to teach.


Applicants should have at least three A-levels,  An A-level in the subject they wish to teach will be useful.  If an applicant has an A-level in one of the shortage subjects - Chemistry, Physics, Computing and ICT or Modern Foreign Languages, then they may be eligible for a subject knowledge enhancement course to allow them to access a PGCE in one of these areas.

Other Qualifications

All applicants must pass the DFE skills tests before commencing training. These need to be completed at a registered centre and can be passed before interview or as a condition of your place.


Experience in an educational setting and between 5-10 days observation in a secondary school setting is recommended before applying.
