PE, Differentiation and Developing Leadership
Main Phase: Secondary
In his previous role as a Head of PE the quality of teaching across KS3 and KS4 and the sporting opportunities available to students in the Department were all graded outstanding both internally and by Ofsted. Mark had a proven record of moving new staff to outstanding and has been successful in helping colleagues develop and refine their own leadership and management skills and go into positions of greater responsibility internally and externally.
Mark has successfully completed a research project investigating the use of PE as an intervention strategy for whole school improvement and has used coaching models for staff development which were implemented across the school. In his current role in further education Mark’s work as an Advanced Skills Practitioner requires him to support staff in developing their Teaching and Learning skills across all subject areas at level 1, 2 and 3. This involves individual tracking and support of staff via a mentoring approach and the delivery of bespoke CPD to meet different curriculum area needs in areas such as behaviour management and stretch and challenge.
In a junior school context Mark has experience as an SSCO and is committed to providing PE Coordinators and staff teaching PE with organisational and classroom management skills which will allow them to make the best of their subject knowledge and have the most significant impact on the quality of PE provision
