The National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) provides recognition of leadership development and professional achievement for senior leaders who are looking for further professional development but not yet aspiring to headship within secondary or primary schools.
Who is this for?
The National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) is for those who are, or are aspiring to become, a senior leader with cross-school responsibilities such as an experienced middle leader, a deputy headteacher, an assistant headteacher, or other senior staff.
This includes those who are, or are aspiring to be, a senior leader with cross-school responsibilities e.g. a Director of a Teaching School Alliance.
NPQSL provides recognition of leadership development and professional achievement for senior leaders. Candidates have access to high-quality learning materials and accounts of practice from outstanding leaders. Senior leaders reflect on their own leadership through discussion and debate with peers and put theory into practice.
The qualification has been designed to stimulate and challenge thinking, build knowledge, skills and expertise, and promote change and improvement in leadership behaviours, capability and capacity.
The National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership has a flexible combination of blended learning and support opportunities that includes face-to-face sessions, online learning, leadership learning groups, dedicated personal tutor and peer support. Candidates will complete three modules covering three learning areas: Strategy and Improvement, Teaching and Curriculum Excellence, and Managing Resources and Risks, each facilitated within a 4-week period. All focus on improving the effectiveness of leadership practice and developing behaviours around commitment, collaboration, personal drive, resilience, awareness, integrity and respect.
There will be three face to face full day sessions held at The Priory School, Shrewsbury
Funding DfE Scholarships Information
If an applicant works in a school in DfE Opportunity Areas 5 or 6, or is part of a MAT with a school who falls within Areas 5 or 6, the full costs of a course may be claimed from the Department of Education. This includes schools from Telford & Wrekin, Sandwell, East Staffordshire, Tamworth, Stoke-on-Trent, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Dudley, Cannock Chase, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands, North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Wychavon and Wyre Forest.
No funding is required up front. Please note however that availability and eligibility of NPQ Scholarship funding is reviewed by the DfE on an ongoing basis and we cannot guarantee that there will be no change to this current position.

Please note in order to attend sessions with The Salop Teaching School Alliance as the provider, with face to face sessions at The Priory School, Shrewsbury, when you register under the training preferences section please indicate on the drop down list your preference as Salop TSA and the partner allocation code is SLP-TSA.
Places are limited so please apply as soon as possible especially if you are within Areas 5 or 6 to ensure you are considered within the next intake. Registration deadline is 3rd December for funded candidates or 20th December for non funded. Applications after this date may still be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
